I had the Salty Pimp, a vanilla pliable serve ice cream infused with dulce de leche, sprinkled with sea salt, covered in a chocolate coating, and plopped on foremost of a cone that was drizzled with dulce de leche and sea salt. It was pure bliss. I knew I had to share the experience with you.

It all starts with soft serve ice cream. Since it is not an item many of us have in our homes, and since I wanted to keep this rec

My husband and I, well ok, really just me, is always looking for the best ice cream joint I can find.  But my husband does a lot of feed this care affair I own with ice cream.  He’s constantly sending me articles he finds on the Internet which lists the best ice cream joints in the country or the world or stories about fresh ice cream parlors that are opening up, etc.  One of these “best” lists had a very well established New York ice cream joint on its list.  So for our trip to New York, I made sure to schedule in a detour to one of the ice cream joint’s locations so that my husband and I could sample for ourselves how good, or not, this ice cream really was.  We even had to forego dessert at The Spotted Pig so that we’d be able to handle ice cream at this store shortly thereafter.  Now you know how serious I am about my ice cream.

Big Gay Ice Cream is the brainchild of Douglas Quint and Bryan Petroff.  Opened as an ice cream truck in Manhattan in June of 2009, they soon gained a enormous following.  With its loud and pleased name brand and its delicious ice cream creations, Massive Gay Ice Cream open its first brick and mortar store in the fall of 2011 in Manha big gay ice cream vanilla recipe

    Big Gay Ice Cream

That familiar tune... it starts out faint, growing louder and louder by the second.  Your ears perk up, your posture straightens.  Instantly, you bolt for the door, grabbing your wallet on the way.  It's Mister Softee, and the truck is heading your way!  You walk (run) up to the truck to find that those familiar sprinkles have been replaced with the unexpected , including wasabi pea dust, toasted curried coconut, dulce de leche, pumpkin butter, and even sea salt.  You realize this is no Mister Softee.  You, my friend, have stumbled upon the greatness that is Big Gay Ice Cream.

Co-founders Douglas Quint and Bryan Petroff began Large Gay Ice Cream as a humble ice cream truck experiment in the summer of 2009.  The combination of serving up that nostalgic old-school soft-serve covered in new, visionary toppings was an instant success.  In September of 2011, the pair expanded into their own brick-and-mortar shop in the East Village, located at 125 East 7th Street.  This is where I possess been a frequent glad customer over the past couple of months.  I find my car driving itself to 7th Highway all the time, all by itself.  Weird...

Big Homosexual Ice Cream, along with

    Awesomesauce

This recipe began when Doug had a week with no bassoon work and an urge to craft batches of chocolate something. Bryan won’t stand for untweaked chocolate—it has to be smoky, or spicy, or salty—so for this particular recipe, we went spicy. This sauce was one of the first of our own recipes that made it onto Big Gay Ice Cream Shop’s menu. Doug had just finished making a giant batch of what was then called “spicy chocolate sauce” when a text message blipped onto his phone. The letter was from Stacy London and said simply, “You should name something on your menu Awesomesauce.” Stacy’s timing was impeccable, and that’s how a chick famous for not cooking named one of our items. She probably tells people she wrote the recipe, bless her heart.
