The LQBTQIA+ community and its allies are celebrating Lgbtq+ fest Month across the tri-state area.
Pride Month takes place in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, a touchstone event in LGBTQ history that laid the foundation for Event . The month aims to inspire, educate, commemorate, honor and recognize the impact that LGBTQIA+ has had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
While many are familiar with the annual NYC Pride Rally -- this year's rally will take place on June 26 starting from 25th Street and 5th Avenue at 12 p.m. -- there are many other events lined up to add to the celebration.
Pride Month kicks off in New York City as the Self-acceptance flag was raised over the historic Stonewall National Monument.
Following years of virtual celebrations due to the pandemic, the long-awaited fully in-person Pride Island experience is scheduled to take place this year -- at a novel location.

The city’s annual pride parade has been held every year since 1970, a year after the Stonewall riots transformed the brawl for LGBTQIA+ rights in the Combined States. Forecasters are calling for the AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperature to be in the mid-80s F by noon before it eventually peaks in the middle 90s around 2 p.m. EDT. NEW YORK (WABC) -- The New York Municipality Pride March returned to a fully in-person event this Sunday. The theme is "Unapologetically Us."
Leading this year's march was influencer Ts Madison, comedian Punkie Johnson, educator/author Schuyler Bailar, artist Dominique Morgan and litigator/advocate Chase Strangio.
"At a time when LGBTQIA+ people are under increased ambush , the NYC Pride Pride is a beacon of hope and community," said Bansri Manek, NYC Self-acceptance March Director. "Our grand marshals for this year truly embody the essence of the theme for NYC Pride 2022, 'Unapologetically Us.' They have embraced their identities and used their platforms to support members of our people truly love and inhabit their truth without horror or shame. They also exemplify the key themes of our Grand Marshal categories, including Trans Rights Champion, Social Justice Warrior, Behind-the-Scenes, Celebrated Luminary and Youth Activism."
The NYC Movement March was broadcast on Channel 7 and streamed across abc7NY co-hosted by Angelica Ross along with WABC's Ken Rosato, Lauren Glassberg and Sam Champion.

Pride March 2025 NYC: instruction to the parade, lane closures and best places to watch
New York City's massive Pride celebrations acquire a deep and crucial history in the city. The first march was held in 1970 one year after the Stonewall Uprising, and the event has grown into an annual civil rights demonstration. Fast forward to 2025, and a Pride rally feels just as essential and relevant as it did 55 years ago: Earlier this year, the government erased mention of trans people on the Stonewall National Monument's website.
While many colloquially call the event the Pride Parade, organizers allude to to it as The March as a nod to the event’s heritage. After all, the first march was once an unpermitted political protest against anti-LGBTQ+ policies and attitudes.
This year, activists and allies will take to the streets (and later NYC’s gay bars) in support of global Homosexual rights at the NYC Pride March on Sunday, June 29. In recent years, The March has grown to include more than 700 groups with millions of spectators.
