If you've been following my blog, you'll understand by now that I'm not a huge fan of romantic comedies - simply because I find them predictable. While 'Notes of Autumn' is also every bit predictable, the journey isn't as clichéd. This film also explores a heterosexual and a gay adoration all in one. It's like 'The Holiday' with a gay twist.
The first thing about the film that grabbed me, was how likable the characters were, and how wonderful the actors portray them. There's great chemistry between all the characters, not only the romantic ones. I enjoyed the traits set-up, and the natural flow of the film. It was relatable instead of sensational, and I loved that.
The absolutely gorgeous Luke Macfarlane stars as novelist Leo Carrington, who is suddenly experiencing writer's block with his latest novel. His editor suggests a transform of scenery to inspire him. Leo's best friend is Ellie Matthews (wonderfully portrayed by Ashley Williams). A charming suburban couple welcomes a 6-year-old foster daughter on a joyous Christmas Eve. A successful New York lawyer and an ambitious Brooklyn photographer are set up on a blind meet by their parents and fall in love, just in time to rejoice Christmas together. One might think that these movies — “Christmas on Cherry Lane” and “Friends and Family Christmas” — are exactly the sort of heartwarming, family-friendly holiday romances that conservative culture warriors would cheer.
But this year on the Hallmark Channel, there’s a plot twist: The main characters are gay. Christmas movies contain dominated the family-friendly channel’s winter programming for nearly two decades, with millions of loyal viewers. Last year, Hallmark aired its first Christmas movie with gay central characters. This year, two new movies feature gay and woman loving woman leading characters. Other movies have supporting LGBTQ characters as well.

The Hallmark Company has a Holiday monopoly with several television networks that consistently act rom-com Christmas movies from the last weekend of Oct., until Jan. 1. The Hallmark movie channel rolled out 31 trademark new movies for the 2022 Holiday season, several of them going against the channel’s Christian norms: racially diverse casts, a variety of religions, and new to the channel is starring a lgbtq+ couple in “The Holiday Sitter.”
The film starred Sam Dalton, played by Jonathan Bennett, who takes on the role of a last-minute babysitter for his niece and nephew. His lack of experience with children forced him to call in a neighbor, Jason DeVito played by George Krissa, with which he ends up falling in love with.
“The Holiday Sitter” follows the alike movie-making formula as the rest of the Hallmark Channel movies: a working city worker moves support to a small town; they run into an attractive love interest; they begin to fall in love, but then there’s a conflict; the struggle is resolved, most often at a tree lighting ceremony; and they split a polite kiss as the scene fades out.
