Sexual identities and sexual behaviours don’t always match because sexuality is multidimensional. Many people recognizesexual fluidity, and some even identify as “mostlystraight.”
Fewer people understand that some men and womenhave same-sex encounters, yet nonetheless perceive themselves as exclusively straight. And these people are not necessarily “closeted” gays, lesbians or bisexuals.
When a closeted gay or bisexual guy has sex with another man, he views that sex as reflecting his secret identity. He is not open about that identity, likely because he fears discrimination. When a straight man has sex with another man, however, he views himself as straight despite his sex with men.
In my book, Still Straight: Sexual Flexibility among White Men in Rural America, I investigate why some men who identify as direct have sex with other men. Large nationally exemplary surveys show that hundreds of thousands of vertical American men — at least — have had sex with two or more other men. This finding represents a disconnect between identity and behaviour, and researchers from around the world - in the United States, Australia and the U.K. - have studied this topic.

Why do some straight men have sex with other men?
According to nationally-representative surveys in the United States, hundreds of thousands of straight-identified men have had sex with other men.
In the new book Still Straight: Sexual Flexibility among White Men in Rural America released today, UBC sociologist Dr. Tony Silva argues that these men – many of whom enjoy hunting, fishing and shooting guns – are not closeted, bisexual or just experimenting.
After interviewing 60 of these men over three years, Dr. Silva found that they delight in a range of relationships with other men, from hookups to sexual friendships to secretive loving partnerships, all while strongly recognizing with straight culture.

Men who depart on to describe themselves as ‘same-sex attracted’ or ‘gay’ have a mighty physical and emotional attraction to men that they don’t usually feel for women.

There is a lot of pressure from society for young men to be heterosexual or ‘straight’. This can often cause feelings of isolation for young men who are gay and produce them scared to display their sexuality.

Why some men are gay
There is no real explanation as to why some men are gay and others are not. Although there is no right or incorrect answer to the interrogate, a possible reason suggested by researchers is that we are born with our sexual orientation.

There is no test or questionnaire you can complete that will answer this question for you. If you consider you might be lgbtq+, it’s important that you:

It seems obvious that men have greater sex drives than women. After all, men are widely seen as the “pursuers,” pushing for sex as initial in a affair as possible. Meanwhile, women are the “gatekeepers,” delaying the initiation of sex for as drawn-out as they can.
