During an advanced screening of “Thor: Love and Thunder,” star Natalie Portman, who plays the role of Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor, answered one fan’s question and said, “[The film would be] so gay.”

Watiti is known for Diverse storytelling. In both the HBO Max series “Our Flag Means Death” and “Thor,” he arranges idealistic storylines for LGBTQ characters.

While the latest “Thor” may not be as “super gay” as Waititi described, it still features a number queer characters, including Zeus, a pansexual god, Korg, a gay rock man, and Valkyrie, a bisexual warrior played by Tessa Thompson.

Even though in this movie Valkyrie didn’t find “her queen” as Thompson said in a preview, she had a long conversation with Korg about same-sex relationships. The lengthy conversation marks a outbreak from MCU’s previous depiction on queerness on screen.

In the end of this movie, Korg attended the fir

The following review of “Thor: Love and Thunder”has spoilers for Valkyrie’s gay storyline. The most significant spoilers are marked off with the designation [spoilers begin], however reading ANY of this review comes with the presumption that you have either seen “Thor: Love and Thunder”or don’t mind being spoiled overall. And away we proceed on a flying winged rainbow horse called Aragorn! 🦄⚡️🌈

I first knew that I’d buy tickets to Thor: Love and Thunder back in 2019, when at San Diego Comic Con Tessa Thompson said that Valkyrie’s first priority as the King of New Asgard would be to find her queen. Ok wait, that’s a lie, I first knew I’d buy tickets to Thor: Love and Thunder back in 2017 during Thor: Ragnarok, when Tessa Thompson used a oversized space gun to produce a joke about a strap-on. But I knew that I’d be buying tickets on the first day — Covid risk and all (I wore a mask the entire time) — when a Love and Thunder trailer came out last month, and Tessa Thompson was licking what appeared to be gold blood off of a sword with her whole entire tongue. I am but a simple gal, my sweet King Valkyrie was finally going to be gay on screen

'Thor: Love and Thunder': Queerbaiting or Gay Representation?

After the achievement of Thor: Ragnarok, many fans had high hopes for director Taika Waititi’s sequel Thor: Affectionate and Thunder. However, the film released to mixed reviews, becoming one of the worst–rated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies on Bad Tomatoes.

Critics are mostly debating whether the film successfully balances its humor with its seriousness or whether it’s just Ragnarok redone. LGBTQ fans, however, are panning the clip for other reasons: alleged queerbaiting.

Queerbaiting is the practice of using marketing or narrative undertones to imply a show or show’s characters are queer without ever saying they are. It hooks in viewers who are seeking lgbtq+ representation while avoiding officially outing a character or writing thoughtful LGBTQ storylines. But not only is it lethargic storytelling,  queerbaiting also allows the picture to retain the support of LGBTQ audiences, homophobic fans, and corporate sponsors alike. Similarly, queerbaiting allows films to be premiered in certain international theaters, as content with LGBTQ storylines is banned in multiple countries. For instance, D

Why Valkyrie's Arc in Thor: Love and Thunder Is Probably the Gayest Marvel Will Ever Get

Thor: Love and Thunder stars Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman, along with originator Taika Waititi, surprised moviegoers at a London preview assessing, showing up to champion the clip and answer questions from the audience.

Someone asked, "How gay is the movie?" to which Portman responded: "So gay."

You probably won't be surprised to learn that Thor: Love and Thunder was not so gay. It was moderately, sort of gay, and probably more gay than other Marvel vehicles, but certainly not the kind of "gay" that seemed to be intimated by Portman's retort .

We certainly wouldn't be the ones to champion Marvel and Disney's tries at LGBTQ+ voice when, historically, they have done the bare minimum while implicitly condoning discriminatory anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.

Despite their continued claims towards inclusivity, the moments of on-screen representation have been fleeting and, most notably, handily unimportant to the overall plot; perfect to edit out when a film is distributed in a foreign market cold towards queer characters.

But Thor

Taika Waititi: ‘We cut Valkyrie's queer scene in Thor - we should hold just had her brush her'

Last year, one of Marvel’s heavyweight villains came out. In the Disney+ limited series Loki, it was confirmed that the titular character played by Tom Hiddleston was fluid. The superhero world has traditionally been a hypermasculine, heterosexual realm, but this was a sign that times are changing – and catching up with the source comics, where queer characters have appeared in print for years.

In the Marvel Cinematic Existence (MCU), the gears possess ground a little slower. Last year’s ensemble Eternals established the first gay couple, with Phastos, the MCU’s first gay superhero.

Now comes Thor: Love and Thunder, a film that promises to push this further. “I think we’re all in agreement that we need to discuss about it,” says the film’s director, Taika Waititi.

“We need to store bringing the subject up. It’s gonna be kind when one day we don’t have to say: Oh, tell me about that scene where those two men held hands!”

Love and Thunder, the fourth solo outing for Chris Hemsworth’s Asgard god, is another action-packed, fun-loving blockbuster. It features the come back of
